PRECAUTIONS FOR LANE CONTROL SYSTEM

(a) Precautions for Using the Lane Control System

(1) The lane control system provides information to the driver and performs steering assistance according to the road and driving conditions. The driver must keep their hands on the steering wheel when the system is operating. The driver must not overly rely on the system, and is always responsible for paying attention to the vehicle's surroundings and driving safely.

(2) The lane control system uses the forward recognition camera to detect lane markers, lane boundaries and preceding and surrounding vehicles. Therefore the system will not operate if lane markers, lane boundaries or the path of the preceding vehicle is not detected. Additionally, a light amount of steering assist force that will not interfere with driving may be applied or warning buzzer may sound unnecessarily. Be sure to control the vehicle using the steering wheel in a responsible manner under all circumstances, even when the system is operating.

(3) The lane departure alert function and steering assist function operate when the LTA main switch is on, lane markers or lane boundaries are detected and the vehicle is being driven within the system operating speed range. However, depending on the road and driving conditions, the system may not operate or operation may be canceled.

(4) The lane control system is designed for use on highways and freeways. Do not use the lane control system on other roads.

(5) The lane centering function uses the path of the preceding vehicle to help the driver stay within the lane, when traffic, etc. makes it difficult or impossible to detect lane markers. If the preceding vehicle is being driven extremely close to the left or right side of the lane, or changes lanes, the vehicle may follow, possibly departing the lane. If the preceding vehicle is swaying, the vehicle may also begin swaying or depart from the lane.

(6) If a malfunction is detected, the system notifies the driver using buzzer and warning message and cancels operation. However, the vehicle can continue to be driven normally.

(7) In order to prevent unintended operation, when not using the lane control system, turn it off with the LTA main switch.

(8) The lane control system will not operate if Steering Sensor Zero Point Calibration has not been completed.

(9) Do not use the lane control system in the following situations, as doing so may lead to an accident.

  • When the follow-up cruising display is displayed and the preceding vehicle changes lanes (the vehicle may follow the preceding vehicle and depart from the lane).
  • When the follow-up cruising display is displayed and the preceding vehicle is swaying (the vehicle may begin swaying or depart from the lane).
  • When the preceding vehicle is being driven extremely close to the left or right side of the lane (the vehicle may follow the preceding vehicle and depart from the lane).
  • When driving where the road diverges or merges.
  • When there are visible lines on the pavement from road repairs, or the remains of old lane markers.
  • When there are objects or structures along the roadside that might be mistaken as lane markers (such as guardrails, curbs, reflector posts, etc.).
  • When driving around a sharp curve.
  • When driving on road surfaces that are slippery from rain, snow, ice, etc.
  • When driving on snowy roads.
  • When driving on a road where lane markers are difficult to see due to puddles, rain, fog, dust, etc.
  • When driving on a road with lane closures due to construction or on a temporary lane.
  • When driving with snow tires, tire chains, a spare tire, etc.
  • When the tires are excessively worn or the tire inflation pressure is insufficient.
  • When tires which differ by structure, manufacturer, or tread pattern are installed to the vehicle.
  • When driving on roads other than highways and freeways.

(10) Functions of the lane control system may not operate correctly when driving at excessively high speeds.

(b) Precautions for Forward Recognition Camera

(1) It may be difficult or impossible for the forward recognition camera to detect lane markers, lane boundaries or the path of the preceding vehicle, in the following situations:

  • When driving in inclement weather, such as rain, snow, fog or a sandstorm.
  • When the front of the vehicle is hit by water, snow, dust, or when driving through fog, sand, smoke, etc.
  • When a very bright light ahead, such as the sun or the high beams of oncoming traffic, shines directly into the forward recognition camera.
  • When the surroundings are dim, such as when driving at night or in a tunnel.
  • When driving with the headlights off at night or in a tunnel.
  • When a detectable object appears to be nearly the same color or brightness as its surroundings.
  • When the grade of the road changes suddenly (a sudden upward or downward slope).
  • When the surrounding brightness changes suddenly, such as at the entrance or exit of a tunnel.
  • When it is cold and the upper part of the windshield glass is fogged up.
  • When the vehicle-to-vehicle distance with the preceding vehicle is extremely close.

(2) The forward recognition camera may not correctly detect lane markers, lane boundaries or the path of the preceding vehicle in the following situations:

  • When the front of the vehicle is raised or lowered.
  • When the vehicle height has been changed (the suspension has been modified, the tire size has been changed, etc.).
  • When the area of the windshield glass in front of the forward recognition camera is covered with snow, ice, dirt, or oil.
  • When the area of the windshield glass in front of the forward recognition camera is fogged up.
  • When the area of the windshield glass in front of the forward recognition camera has not been sufficiently cleared of washer fluid.
  • When a wiper blade is blocking the forward recognition camera.
  • When the area of the windshield glass in front of the forward recognition camera is damaged.
  • When a canoe or other long object is mounted on the roof, blocking the forward recognition camera.
  • When a headlight is covered with dirt, ice, mud, etc., and the lane markers are not properly illuminated.
  • When a headlight is misaligned, and the lane markers are not properly illuminated.
  • When the headlights, fog lights or other lights have been modified.

(3) The forward recognition camera may not be able to detect lane markers, lane boundaries or the path of the preceding vehicle in the following situations:

  • If the forward recognition camera is misaligned due to a strong impact being applied to it or its surrounding area.
  • If the temperature inside the vehicle is extremely high or low, such as if the vehicle had been left in the sun or a cold environment.
  • Immediately after the engine is started.

(4) Make sure to observe the following precautions when handling the forward recognition camera.

  • Do not subject the forward recognition camera to strong impact.
  • Do not disassemble the forward recognition camera.
  • Do not change the installation position of the forward recognition camera or modify its surrounding parts.
  • Do not touch the lens of the forward recognition camera. If the lens has been touched, carefully clean it with a soft lens cloth without scratching it.

(5) Make sure to observe the following precautions, otherwise the forward recognition camera may not operate properly:

  • Use only genuine wiper blades, non-genuine parts may not properly clear the part of the windshield glass in front of the forward recognition camera.
  • Replace the wiper blades if they are worn, otherwise the wiper blades may not properly clear the windshield glass properly.
  • Do not install any accessories that may obstruct the forward recognition camera to the front of the vehicle such as the hood, front grille, etc.
  • If a long object is to be mounted on the roof, make sure that it does not obstruct the forward recognition camera.
  • Always keep the windshield glass clean.
  • Do not attach stickers or install accessories to the area of the windshield glass in front of or near the forward recognition camera. If it is necessary to install an accessory to the front of the vehicle, make sure that it does not obstruct the forward recognition camera.
  • Even if the windshield glass has been coated with glass coating, the windshield wipers should be used to clear water drops from the area in the front of the forward recognition camera.
  • If the windshield glass is scratched of cracked, replace it.
